Volunteering
We
are always looking for help, experienced in mechanics or otherwise.
We ask that our volunteers make a regular commitment (three hours
on Tuesday afternoons, for example). Our volunteers help out with
mundane tasks like moving bikes from one room to another, building
things, or sorting used parts, and we also teach them mechanics
and put them to work practicing their skills. For example, we'll
teach you how to do a hub adjustment, and then you'll reinforce
what you've learned by adjusting hubs from our source of used wheels.
In addition to the benefit of learning mechanic
skills for free, we also like to offer our volunteers other bike-related
incentives. We offer all volunteers free rental of workspace and
tools. Volunteers who work above a certain tier of hours per month
earn discounted prices on our offerings, including in-stock parts
and special orders through our various vendors.
Thanks so much to our past and present volunteers,
including Steve Hackbarth, Eliza and David from Cambridge Friends
School, John Neil Thompson, Nate Towery, Zack Hoover, Andrew Miner,
Nicole Follmer, Nancy Garland, Keith Berkoben, Jack Chase, Nicole
Follmer, David Nierenberg, Jessica Yin, Sam Leadholm, Ruth Anderson,
Victor Alcalde, Jessica Eckhardt, and David Smith.
